About The Position

The 2026 Vancouver Election will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2026, and approximately 450,000 registered voters in Vancouver will select a Mayor, 10 Councillors, 9 School Trustees, and 7 Park Board Commissioners. To support public awareness and participation in the election, the Vancouver Election Office is leading a communications and community outreach campaign. The Election Outreach Worker organizes, hosts, and participates in a range of events to increase awareness of the election, and promotes knowledge about municipal government and the City’s programs and services. The key goals of the communications and outreach program are to ensure voters have non-partisan information they need to vote, and to educate the wider community on City programs and services to help them understand what the City is responsible for, and how to connect their values and concerns to their vote.

Requirements

  • Completion of Grade 12, with some experience in working in event planning OR an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Sound knowledge of municipal elections.
  • Working knowledge of equity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated interest in, and enthusiasm for democracy and local government work.
  • Some knowledge of event hosting.
  • Ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in written form in English.
  • Ability to engage strangers in conversation.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with other staff, volunteers, program partners, and the public.
  • Ability to maintain records and perform a variety of routine clerical tasks related to the work performed.
  • Ability to work outdoors in different types of weather.
  • Ability to meet transportation needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate in languages other than English considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Learns about the 2026 Vancouver Election.
  • Hosts in-person opportunities to engage with Vancouver residents and share information about the City and the 2026 Vancouver Election.
  • Assist eligible voters with registering to vote and using the City’s Plan Your Vote tool.
  • Accurately informs eligible voters of the different ways to vote; voter eligibility and identification requirements; accessible voting provisions; and the roles of municipal government and elected officials.
  • Remains non-partisan in all discussions regarding the 2026 Vancouver Election.
  • Supports material distribution.
  • Attends public events during the week, with some work required on evenings and weekends.
  • Helps set-up, keeps track of, and puts away event materials.
  • Ensures events are running smoothly and escalates issues as required.
  • Ensures proper set-up and clean-up for events.
  • Assists in the identification of opportunities to engage with Vancouver residents and makes suggestions on delivery options.
  • Keeps track of supplies and equipment and submits orders and repair requests to supervisor.
  • Records outreach metrics and contributes comments and observations to event summaries.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
