About The Position

This position supports statewide implementation of the Alaska Reads Act by coordinating Early Education Program Grants and early learning initiatives that strengthen literacy outcomes for Alaska’s youngest learners. The role involves supporting districts and early learning partners with grant implementation, monitoring, reporting, and continuous improvement. It also includes providing technical assistance and training on evidence-based literacy instruction, developmentally appropriate practices, and early learning standards. Additionally, the position will develop guidance, resources, presentations, and communications to support high-quality early learning and literacy programs statewide, and collaborate with Alaska Reads Act and Early Learning teams to support family engagement, assessment literacy, and instructional best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college and four years of professional experience in education.
  • One year of experience as a staff advisor/specialist, administrator, supervisor or consultant in planning, developing and maintaining standards and evaluating educational and vocational curricula or educational programs in a specialized field.
  • Appropriate graduate study may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the non-specialized experience to a maximum of two years.
  • Alaska Teacher Certificate at the time of employment and be required to maintain certification as a condition of employment (specific endorsements may also be required).
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Education and Training: Knowledge of teaching, training, research, making presentations, lecturing, testing, and other instructional methods.
  • Teaching Others: Helps others learn through formal or informal methods; identifies training needs; provides constructive feedback; coaches others on how to perform tasks; acts as a mentor.

Nice To Haves

  • Endorsement or Content Area Exam in Early Childhood Education, Early Learning, or Elementary Education is desired but not required.
