About The Position

Brock University is seeking an Education Instructor for the EDUC 3P45 course, Reading and Literacy Development, in the Department of Educational Studies. This is a part-time, contract position for the Fall 2026 academic term, running from September 9, 2026, to January 4, 2027. The instructor will be responsible for co-teaching the course with a faculty member, involving student contact time and non-contact time, including preparation of materials, student consultation, marking, holding office hours, and course administration. The role requires commitment to responsible time management and availability for individual student consultations.

Requirements

  • Doctoral Degree (PhD, EdD) in Educational Psychology, School Psychology, Clinical Child Psychology, Applied Linguistics or a related discipline
  • Experience teaching literacy development, reading processes and instruction and developmental reading courses at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated expertise in reading and literacy development, literacy assessment, and evidence-based instructional practices.
  • Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence at the undergraduate university level, official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; and/or references.
  • Ability to work independently without immediate direct supervision.
  • Competence in the use of email, Brightspace/D2L, internet, common office software (e.g. Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.

  • Skills related to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources in the teaching of the course, as required.

Responsibilities

  • Student contact time and non-contact time
  • Contact time includes all classes as scheduled including in-person, blended, online or other teaching formats
  • Non-classroom work may include preparation of lecture material, student consultation, marking or grading, holding office hours, managing and meeting with teaching assistants, and course administration as may be required
  • Use of a provided Brock email address for all Brock-related communications
  • Complete the compulsory Brock instructor online tutorial prior to the first class (about 1 hour)
  • Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures)
  • Available for individual consultation with students (e.g. office hours 1.5 hours per week)
  • Active participation in curriculum development
  • Sharing of responsibilities in careful test preparation
  • Student assessment
  • Prompt and accurate marking
