About The Position

The Education Associate 3 is the office Lead in a customer-focused role within DEED’s Teacher Certification office. This position is often the first point of contact for educators seeking certification in Alaska and is essential in ensuring applicants receive timely, accurate, and supportive service. This position reviews and evaluates certification applications in accordance with Alaska statutes, regulations and procedures, determining eligibility and issuing a wide range of certificate types. In addition to daily application review, this position manages the Teacher Certification office in Juneau, ensuring it runs smoothly and is responsive to the needs of educators. Working with the Teacher Certification team, the Teacher Education Associate 3 helps maintain efficient office operations and contributes to a positive, service oriented experience for all applicants. The Education Associate 3 serves within DEED’s Division of Innovation and Education Excellence as a key member of the Teacher Certification team. This team consists of dedicated staff who provide customer service and support to educators and school districts, ensuring they understand and can successfully navigate Alaska’s certification requirements. The Teacher Education Associate 3 plays a critical role by processing certification applications and maintaining effective, efficient systems that support the Teacher Certification team.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college, preferably in administration and/or education. AND One year of experience as an Education Associate 2 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Six years of experience in the broad field of education, counseling or administrative services, two years of which were at the technical/paraprofessional.
  • Any combination of the above.
  • Customer Service – Works with clients and customers to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Computer Skills – Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving – Uses a logical, systematic, sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on one’s knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.
  • Leadership – Influences, motivates, and challenges others; adapts leadership styles to a variety of situations.
  • Professionalism – Consistently displays the collection of competencies and skill expected of a professional. Professionalism is defined by its key behaviors including being accountable for actions and assigned projects; practicing efficient work habits to effectively manage time and workload; clearly communicating and expressing thoughts and ideas in writing and in person; possessing the ability to understand how non-verbal communication impacts the workplace; working effectively as part of a team to achieve productive outcomes; and consistently demonstrating, emotional intelligence, integrity, and ethical behavior.
  • Three (3) professional references, whom we may contact by phone, are required. One (1) of these references must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
  • A copy of your last three (3) performance evaluations, or two (2) letters of reference if evaluations are unavailable.
  • A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial is okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate study, preferably in administration and/or education may also substitute for the generalized experience in option 2 on a year-for-year basis.
