About The Position

The Mid-Shift Registered Nurse serves as the primary triage nurse for both the Emergency Department and Urgent Care, ensuring patients are assessed promptly, prioritized appropriately, and directed to the appropriate level of care. This role also supports departmental quality initiatives through post-discharge follow-up calls and visit charge review while assisting with direct patient care as department volumes and acuity require. The Registered Nurse is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Maintains accountability for his/her own practice; provides nursing care for patients; participates in patient and family teaching; and provides leadership by working cooperatively with ancillary, nursing, and other patient care team personnel in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice in the acute care setting.

Requirements

Graduate of accredited school of nursing with current WI RN licensure in good standing.
Minimum of one year RN experience (or equivalent) required.
Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC (or similar trauma certification) or willing to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Meets OMC health requirements.

Responsibilities

Serves as the primary triage Registered Nurse for both Emergency Department and Urgent Care patients.
Performs rapid assessments and assigns acuity utilizing the Emergency Severity Index (ESI) and departmental triage standards.
Prioritizes patient flow to ensure patients receive timely evaluation and treatment based on clinical need.
Collaborates with registration, ED clinicians, and Urgent Care clinicians to direct patients to the appropriate care setting.
Initiates standing nursing orders and protocols when appropriate.
Performs 24-hour post-discharge follow-up calls according to departmental standards, documenting findings and escalating concerns to the appropriate clinician.
Reviews Emergency Department visit charges for accuracy and completeness to support appropriate documentation, billing, and reimbursement.
Assists with patient care in the Emergency Department as volumes, acuity, or staffing needs require.
Supports patient throughout stay by coordinating with clinicians, radiology, laboratory, and ancillary departments to reduce delays in care.
Assists with department quality improvement initiatives related to patient flow, patient satisfaction, documentation, and regulatory compliance.
May float to Med/Surg unit during times of low ED volume as needed.
