About The Position

The ED Registration Specialist performs outpatient and inpatient registration functions, verifies insurance, and collects payments for the University of Toledo Medical Center while providing excellent customer service to patients and visitors. The role communicates effectively to support patient flow and customer relations, and ensures financial policies and requirements are met while providing caring access to medical services.

The specialist completes accurate registration and admission functions to maximize reimbursement and provide timely, accurate patient information to providers and other users of patient data. This is a highly skilled, fully cross-functional position.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous customer service experience.
• Working knowledge of operating a computer in a Windows-based environment and using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook to produce and manage reports and correspondence.
• Proficient use of a computer keyboard.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision and follow written, oral, or diagram-based instructions.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional, service-oriented working relationships with patients, families, physicians, nurses, coworkers, supervisors, and others.
• Ability to provide excellent customer satisfaction when presenting information and responding to questions from staff, patients, and the general public.
• Ability to handle confrontation and a stressful working environment while maintaining excellent customer service.
• Ability to analyze data and calculate figures and amounts using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; applicants may be tested.
