Dispatch Operations Specialist
About The Position
Scotts Miracle-Gro is hiring a Dispatch Operations Specialist for its team in Waverly, Virginia. The role coordinates Scotts and Growing Media freight to support efficient operations and timely deliveries. It also involves negotiating freight rates, maintaining shipping and compliance records, coordinating orders and production schedules, and communicating with customers, drivers, corporate personnel, and plant teams. The specialist cross-trains and provides coverage for general office functions and handles special projects and other office duties as requested. The hourly pay rate generally ranges from $21.60 to $29.20, paid weekly. Actual pay may vary based on skills, qualifications, experience, and geographic location.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Two years of experience in a traffic- or freight-related field.
- Previous experience dispatching trucks.
- Microsoft Office and computer skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities with a strong customer service orientation.
- Prior negotiation experience.
- Knowledge of state, local, and federal DOT regulations.
- Knowledge of office procedures.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate Scotts and Growing Media freight to maximize efficiency and ensure timely deliveries.
- Negotiate freight rates with contract carriers.
- Maintain and process records and paperwork to ensure private fleet and contract carriers comply with state, federal, and local regulations.
- Confirm or process orders and bills of lading.
- Advise customers about delivery scheduling and order problems.
- Develop production schedules with the Production Supervisor.
- Coordinate shipments with production personnel and other Growing Media plants.
- Respond to inquiries from customers, truck drivers, corporate personnel, and others.
- Cross-train and fill in for general office duties, including scale operation, accounts payable, production entry, and inventory posting.
- Perform special projects and other office duties as requested.
