Director, Product Design

DigiCert•Sunnyvale, CA
•$200,000 - $270,000

About The Position

DigiCert is hiring a Product Design Director to set design direction and lead a geographically distributed team across Trust Lifecycle Manager, DigiCert’s common platform, and other product areas. The director will connect company strategy, customer needs, and high-quality craft while helping designers do their strongest work. This strategic people-leadership role remains close to the work. The director will guide discovery and critique, help teams make difficult tradeoffs, and ensure customer-facing production experiences meet design intent and quality standards. The role will also lead the design function’s adoption of AI-enabled and agentic workflows by identifying high-value use cases, redesigning workflows, developing team capability, setting guardrails and evaluation criteria, and scaling practices that improve speed, quality, learning, and customer outcomes. The director will partner with Product, Engineering, and other leaders to influence roadmaps and executive decisions; create coherent experiences across a broad product portfolio; build customer feedback loops; and hire, coach, develop, and retain a distributed design team. DigiCert describes itself as a global leader in intelligent trust, protecting digital interactions with its AI-powered DigiCert ONE platform, which unifies PKI, DNS, and certificate lifecycle management.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience leading team-level or function-level AI transformation beyond individual tool use, including workflow redesign, addressing adoption barriers, establishing guardrails and quality measures, developing capability, and achieving measurable gains.
  • 10+ years of experience in product design, UX, or a related discipline, including 5+ years leading and developing product design teams.
  • Strong record of hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development for teams working across locations and time zones.
  • Experience designing complex B2B or enterprise SaaS products for technical customers, including multi-step workflows, data-rich interfaces, administration, integrations, permissions, and scale.
  • Deep knowledge of product design from discovery through production delivery, with the ability to evaluate strategic direction and detailed execution.
  • Experience creating coherent experiences across multiple products or a shared platform and balancing long-term architecture with near-term delivery.
  • History of building trusted partnerships with Product, Engineering, Sales, Support, and other leaders, including navigating disagreement and ambiguity.
  • Excellent written, visual, and verbal storytelling, with experience influencing decisions and presenting complex ideas to executive leadership.
  • A portfolio or case studies demonstrating outcomes, teams and decisions behind the work, and effects on customers and the business—not only final artifacts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cybersecurity, PKI, certificate lifecycle management, identity and access management, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, DNS, or adjacent technical domains.
  • Experience leading design for AI-enabled products or agentic workflows, including human oversight, permissions, transparency, and recovery from failure.
  • Experience evolving a shared platform, consolidating fragmented experiences, or scaling a mature design system.
  • Experience leading through significant organizational or product transformation in a global SaaS company.

Responsibilities

  • Set and communicate a cohesive design vision across Trust Lifecycle Manager, the common platform, and other product areas, translating company and product strategy into experience priorities.
  • Partner strategically with Product and Engineering leaders, shape roadmaps early, frame problems, clarify tradeoffs, and turn direction into executable plans.
  • Raise design quality from discovery through information architecture, interaction and visual design, prototyping, content, accessibility, design systems, and production design QA.
  • Build customer feedback loops with customers, Sales, and Support; use qualitative research, product data, and field evidence to identify opportunities, validate decisions, and measure outcomes.
  • Create connected journeys across the product portfolio and champion reusable design-system patterns while supporting domain-specific needs.
  • Define and lead the design function’s roadmap for AI-enabled and agentic workflows across research, synthesis, exploration, prototyping, validation, content, and delivery.
  • Build practical AI literacy, coach designers, share proven workflows, and enable safe experimentation.
  • Establish appropriate AI guardrails, human review points, quality standards, and evaluation methods with Engineering, Security, Legal, IT, and other stakeholders; scale, adjust, or stop practices based on results.
  • Guide teams in designing trustworthy automation and human-agent interactions with clear controls, permissions, feedback, transparency, failure recovery, and escalation paths.
  • Hire, coach, develop, and retain a geographically distributed team; set expectations, provide candid feedback, support career growth, and build an inclusive culture of accountability and trust.
  • Align talent and capacity with high-value work, establish operating rhythms across time zones, and improve design collaboration, decision-making, and delivery.
  • Champion design with executive leadership using clear narratives, customer evidence, prototypes, and business-relevant measures; present recommendations and tradeoffs confidently.
