About the position
This position is for a director for multiple teams of engineers for Ripple’s central Data Platform. The director will be responsible for implementing the data infrastructure for analytics, machine learning, and powering various business functions with data at Ripple. They will lead and manage engineering managers, program managers, and principal engineers, and provide technical leadership for multiple Data Platform initiatives. The director will also drive the technical and strategic vision for the Data infrastructure, mentor and guide the professional and technical development of their team, and build relationships with internal customers and partners.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for multiple Data Platform initiatives and continually measure and improve the user experience
- Drive the technical and strategic vision for the Data infrastructure to meet current and future needs for scale and interoperability
- Lead and manage engineering managers, program managers, and principal engineers, making key technical decisions, unblocking the team, and guiding execution
- Empower and delegate while being a force for continual progress and value delivery
- Own and deliver the roadmap while driving technical and operational excellence
- Be a program owner, responsible for business outcomes and technological innovation
- Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of the team
- Instill a spirit of continuous improvement in the team's inventions and processes to rapidly deliver innovations for customers
- Build relationships with internal customers and partners and leverage them to drive the right initiatives for the team
- Degree in computer science or other quantitative field
- 15+ years of experience in software development
- 8+ years of experience managing engineering teams
- Prior experience as an engineer building and shipping large-scale data systems
- Track record of building, growing, and leading high-performing engineering teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, working with technical and non-technical teams
- Familiarity with platforms like Databricks, Bigquery, Redshift, Athena, or Presto is ideal
- Good grasp of cloud services and technologies
- High autonomy, ownership, and responsibility
- Track record of recruiting and mentoring world-class teams
Requirements
