The Director Nursing Inpatient develops strategies and manages resources to provide optimal nursing care, including staffing, patient-care supplies, and automated patient-care systems. The role oversees system issues and evaluates the quality of care delivered by department staff using standards of practice, patient outcomes, peer review, event reporting, policies and procedures, and equipment and supply evaluations. The director ensures resources are available for performance-improvement initiatives and uses data-driven patient-engagement strategies to improve satisfaction and monitor service performance. The director coordinates services, reinforces accountability to department, facility, and service standards, and maintains effective relationships with patients, families, teammates, medical staff, other departments, health care facilities, and vendors. The role facilitates resolution of operational priorities, acts as a liaison between medical and nursing staff, and collaborates with leaders, teammates, and Professional Governance councils to develop change initiatives and innovative approaches. The director is accountable for care-management, patient-experience, and teammate-engagement targets, staffing and productivity benchmarks, and compliance with DNV, The Joint Commission, and other regulatory requirements. The position promotes evidence-based nursing and supports recruitment, retention, staff development, and effective work environments. Human-resources duties include interviewing and selecting teammates, promotions, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolving concerns, corrective actions, and terminations. The director develops and recommends operating and capital budgets, manages expenditures, and ensures compliance with the Code of Ethical Conduct and applicable policies, regulations, and laws. The position requires a Master’s degree in Nursing; a health-related master’s degree or MBA is acceptable when the undergraduate degree is a BSN, while an MSN is required when the undergraduate degree is not a BSN. A doctoral degree (DNP or PhD) is preferred. The role typically requires seven years of nursing-leadership experience, including management of multiple large, complex acute-care departments, and three years of experience managing staff and budgets. An active RN license, BLS, and nursing-leadership certification within one year of hire are required. The schedule is primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with 24/7 accountability and Administrator on Call duties.
