About The Position

The Director, Conversion Rate Optimization is a hands-on practice leader who builds, sells, and independently delivers CRO services across 829 Studios’ Brand & Digital Experience practice. The role pitches CRO to prospective and existing clients, translates business goals into optimization programs, and personally performs the analysis, experimentation, and reporting needed to deliver measurable results. Initially an individual contributor, the Director owns core CRO delivery, client communication, and engagement management. The role personally performs routine research, analysis, experimentation, and reporting, using agreed specialist support for technical implementation or measurement needs. Supporting resources and tools must be accounted for in engagement scoping and pricing. Success requires sound judgment across client delivery, sales, experimentation, and engagement economics, balancing independent execution with collaboration.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years of demonstrated experience independently delivering CRO programs, with examples of personal execution, measured outcomes, and support required from others.
  • Proven ability to pitch and sell CRO services to prospective and existing clients.
  • Current practical proficiency in experimentation platforms, web analytics, behavioral research, and CRO reporting.
  • Ability to configure, quality-assure, launch, and monitor experiments using approved testing platforms and website tools.
  • Ability to personally implement variations within experimentation tools’ capabilities and scope specialist support for custom development, integrations, or substantial design work.
  • Strong knowledge of experiment design, sample requirements, statistics, and measurement limitations.
  • CRO experience across ecommerce and lead generation, including measuring lead quality and downstream outcomes rather than form submissions alone.
  • Strong conversion copywriting, presentation, and client engagement management skills.
  • Commercial judgment across scoping, pricing, delivery effort, and profitability.

Nice To Haves

  • Agency or consulting experience.
  • Familiarity with Shopify and WordPress.
  • Working knowledge of Claude.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and pitch CRO opportunities to prospective and existing clients, and lead discovery calls, presentations, RFP contributions, and proposal discussions.
  • Assess client accounts for audit, optimization, and recurring CRO program opportunities; develop scopes and pricing recommendations with clear deliverables, measurement approaches, and resource requirements.
  • Partner with Sales and account leadership to advance opportunities through close, owning the CRO solution and pitch.
  • Act as the primary contact for CRO scope, delivery, and results, while keeping designated account leaders informed of commitments, opportunities, and risks.
  • Connect optimization recommendations to business outcomes, adapt programs to client budgets, traffic, business models, and data maturity, and clearly present results, limitations, and tradeoffs.
  • Independently deliver engagements from discovery and audit through research, hypothesis development, experiment execution, analysis, and reporting.
  • Retrieve, validate, and analyze website and funnel data; establish baselines and identify conversion barriers.
  • Use behavioral research and customer feedback to prioritize improvements across conversion paths, including landing pages, product pages, forms, and checkout flows.
  • Configure and operate experimentation tools; implement routine tests involving copy, calls to action, forms, and page variations.
  • Write conversion copy and experiment briefs, maintain prioritized testing roadmaps, and define success criteria and measurement requirements before experiments launch.
  • Validate experiment implementation, tracking, and results; determine when traffic or data quality cannot support meaningful testing and recommend appropriate research or direct improvements.
  • Prepare CRO reports and document findings to inform subsequent work.
  • Establish a commercially viable delivery model that accounts for personal execution time, tools, and specialist support.
  • Manage engagement schedules, scope, and budgets; identify implementation dependencies and secure agreement on specialist work scope, ownership, timing, and cost.
  • Escalate scope changes that affect delivery or profit, and balance client delivery, pitching, and practice development against available capacity.
  • Develop service offerings for clients of different sizes, evaluate tools and licensing costs, and recommend commercially viable approaches.
  • Create repeatable delivery methods, experiment standards, reporting formats, and documented findings; improve efficiency while maintaining sound research and testing practices.
  • Recommend investments and future staffing based on demonstrated demand and financial performance.
  • Use established analytics infrastructure and standards while owning CRO analysis, experiment measurement, and engagement reporting.
  • Coordinate with Analytics on access, instrumentation, dashboards, and complex data needs, agreeing on responsibilities and supporting effort before delivery.
  • Collaborate with Strategy, Design, Development, SEO, Paid Media, and account leadership to understand priorities and assess tradeoffs.
  • Retain independent ownership of core CRO delivery, use limited specialist support for defined implementation needs, evaluate recommendations across the account, and escalate unresolved tradeoffs to the executive sponsor.
