About The Position

The Director, Conversion Rate Optimization is a hands-on practice leader responsible for building, selling, and independently delivering CRO services within 829 Studios’ Brand & Digital Experience practice. The role pitches CRO services to prospective and existing clients, translates business goals into optimization programs, and personally executes research, analysis, experimentation, and reporting. Initially an individual contributor, the Director owns core CRO delivery, client communication, and engagement management, drawing on agreed specialist support for technical implementation or measurement needs. Supporting resources and tooling must be accounted for in engagement scoping and pricing. The position combines client delivery, sales, experimentation, and commercial judgment. It includes developing viable service offerings and delivery methods, managing schedules, scope, and budgets, coordinating with other disciplines, and recommending future investments and staffing based on demonstrated demand and financial performance. The role is remote, with the option to work from the Boston office or remotely from specified states.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to pitch and sell CRO services to prospective and existing clients.
  • Current practical proficiency in experimentation platforms, web analytics, behavioral research, and CRO reporting.
  • Ability to configure, quality-assure, launch, and monitor experiments using approved testing platforms and website tools.
  • Ability to personally implement variations within tool capabilities and scope specialist support for custom development, integrations, or substantial design work.
  • Strong knowledge of experiment design, sample requirements, statistics, and measurement limits.
  • CRO experience across ecommerce and lead generation, including measuring lead quality and downstream outcomes rather than form submissions alone.
  • Strong conversion copywriting, presentation, and client engagement management skills.
  • Commercial judgment across scoping, pricing, delivery effort, and profitability.

  • Prepare CRO reports and document findings to inform subsequent work.
  • Establish commercially viable delivery models that account for execution time, tooling, and specialist support; manage schedules, scope, and budgets without routine account or project management support.
  • Identify implementation dependencies and agree on the scope, owner, timing, and cost of specialist work before committing to scope, pricing, or timelines; escalate scope changes affecting delivery or profit.
  • Balance client delivery, pitching, and practice development against available capacity.
  • Develop service offerings for clients of different sizes, including focused audits and recurring optimization programs; evaluate tools and recommend commercially viable licensing approaches.
  • Create repeatable delivery methods, experiment standards, reporting formats, and documented findings; improve efficiency while maintaining sound research and testing practices.
