About The Position

Journey Found Inc. is seeking a Direct Support Specialist to support people in its group homes. The organization provides behavioral, residential, and other support services to individuals in Connecticut with Pervasive Developmental Disorders and Intellectual Disabilities, with the aim of enabling them to become all they are capable of being. The role supports individuals with daily living, transportation, activities, health-related needs, decision-making, routines, and community participation. It also includes documenting program data, responding to behavioral situations, and working professionally with colleagues and clinical staff. Experience is preferred but not required; training is provided. The position is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a Thursday–Monday schedule from 12 a.m. to 8 a.m. The job location is 217 South Road, Bolton, Connecticut.

Requirements

At least a high school diploma or equivalent.
At least three years of driving experience and a valid driver’s license.
Behavioral management experience and/or formal training.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Must complete PMT, CPR, first aid, and the DDS Medication Administration Program (MAP).
Must be free from communicable disease.

Experience in a similar role is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Support individuals with activities of daily living, including dressing, cooking, cleaning, bathing, and toileting.
Transport people.
Organize activities and community outings.
Administer medication.
Assist with doctors’ appointments.
Document program data.
Teach and engage individuals.
Help implement good routines.
Assist individuals with decision-making.
Go grocery shopping and run errands.
De-escalate situations and manage behaviors.
Work as part of a team.
Communicate professionally with nurses, clinical staff, directors, and supervisors.
