About The Position

A part-time Direct Support Professional is needed to provide 1:1 support to a 34-year-old male in the Oneida, New York area. The role supports the individual in advocating for himself, taking part in enjoyable activities, developing independent-living skills, and accessing assistance in the community when needed. He enjoys meeting new people, shopping for personal needs, visiting different places for lunch, video games, and Pokémon.

The ideal candidate is creative, engaging, active, and patient; is willing to travel to different community locations; and can help the individual explore activities and interests and feel more comfortable learning new independent skills. Hours and days are open and can be arranged with the individual. Additional hours may be available supporting other people receiving services at the agency. Starting pay is $19.25 per hour and increases with years of relevant experience.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must have a valid New York State driver's license and an acceptable driving record.
• Must have reliable transportation and proof of auto insurance.
• Must be able to work independently in the individual's home and/or community.
• Effective communication and organizational skills are required.
• Must be flexible with assignments and schedule and reliably arrive at the job site at the scheduled time.
• Must have technology available to download multiple apps for use in the community and abide by Indera's technology policy.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with people with disabilities, including people with developmental disabilities, is preferred; no experience is required.
• Creativity, an engaging manner, activity, patience, and willingness to travel to community locations are identified as ideal qualities.

Responsibilities

• Support the individual in advocating for himself.
• Help the individual participate in enjoyable activities and explore new activities and interests.
• Help the individual learn independent-living skills and become more comfortable developing independence.
• Provide assistance in the community when needed, including accompanying the individual to different locations.
• Work independently in the individual's home and/or community.
