Direct Support Professional GC-DA
About The Position
Indera is seeking a part-time Direct Support Professional to provide one-to-one support to a 58-year-old man in the Oneida, New York area. The role supports his independence and quality of life by helping him advocate for himself, participate in enjoyable activities, and learn about his benefits and applications. The individual enjoys talking about his interests and past, including four-wheeling, cars, outdoor activities, and his sons. The ideal candidate is creative, engaging, active, and patient, and is willing to travel to different locations depending on the individual's preferences. The candidate should help him explore new activities and interests and support his self-advocacy when needed. Hours and days are open and can be decided with the individual. Additional hours may be available supporting other people served by the agency. Starting pay is $19.25 per hour and increases with years of relevant experience.
Requirements
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Effective communication and organizational skills.
- Flexibility with assignments and schedule.
- Reliable transportation to arrive at the job site on time.
- Must have technology available to download multiple apps for community use and follow Indera's technology policy.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with people with developmental disabilities is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the individual with advocating for himself, including advocating on his behalf if he cannot.
- Support the individual in participating in enjoyable activities and exploring new activities and interests.
- Help the individual learn about his benefits and applications.
- Travel to different locations depending on the individual's preferences and how he feels.
- Use required community apps in accordance with Indera's technology policy.
