About The Position

Benchmark Human Services is hiring a part-time Direct Support Professional for its Bear, Delaware program. The DSP provides individualized supports and services that help people acquire, retain, or improve skills so they can live as independently as possible. The role works as part of an interdisciplinary team and supports individuals at home and in the community, including with health and safety, daily living skills, healthcare needs, community access, and recreational and training activities. DSPs working with individuals who have a Behavior Support Plan may also assist with plan development and implementation, behavior data collection, staff coaching, positive behavioral supports, crisis de-escalation, and emergency response as trained. Candidates selected for hire must complete a background check in accordance with company policy and applicable laws.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
Access to a vehicle in good operating order.
At least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must pass and be proficient in techniques taught in the Mandt System.
Maintain required certifications and training, including applicable First Aid, CPR, Medication Administration (MTTP), Behavioral Principles and Strategies, OSHA, and Abuse & Neglect training.

Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

Participate in developing and implementing each individual’s Individual Plan (IP) as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Promote individuals’ health and safety at home and while pursuing community opportunities.
Help individuals acquire, retain, or improve skills identified in their IP.
Assist with daily living skills, including personal care, meal preparation, cleaning, and laundry.
Maintain a clean and orderly environment and participate in scheduled safety drills.
Support access to community resources, shopping, and recreational activities.
Administer medications and follow physicians’ orders for medications and treatments.
Assist the nurse with healthcare needs, monitor individuals’ well-being, follow healthcare instructions, and communicate health concerns to the nurse and supervisor.
Implement applicable individual protocols, such as high-risk, dining, seizure management, and positioning plans.
Follow food management policies and help prepare nutritious meals according to dining plans.
Complete healthcare and program documentation accurately and on time, including medication administration records, healthcare notes, daily documentation, incident reports, and IP data sheets.
Attend required trainings and meetings.
Immediately report suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation and reportable incidents to a supervisor or department head.
Provide receipts for individual expenditures and petty cash use, as applicable.
Maintain required employment documentation, certifications, and training.
Demonstrate proficiency in techniques taught in the Mandt System and follow standards for the health and safety of individuals and staff.
Safely transport individuals as required.
Plan and participate in age-appropriate recreational, therapeutic, and training activities.
Meet individual service and billable-time goals.
For individuals with a Behavior Support Plan, assist with BSP development, implementation, and monitoring; coach on data collection and fidelity checks; ensure necessary materials are available; model positive behavioral supports; complete assigned functional behavioral assessment interviews or observations; provide crisis de-escalation support; and follow approved behavior plans and related procedures.
