About The Position
Design Within Reach is seeking a creative, design-savvy sales professional for its Palo Alto University Avenue store. The Design Specialist combines interior-design expertise with consultative selling to deliver personalized client experiences and represent modern-design products and brands, including Herman Miller and Knoll. The role builds lasting relationships with clients, trade professionals, and the local design community, and contributes to the store’s sales performance and overall aesthetic. The position reports directly to the General Manager. It includes in-home consultations and off-site meetings with trade clients as needed. Weekend and holiday availability is required.
Requirements
- Passion for modern interiors and design.
- Skill in assessing client needs, problem-solving, and building relationships.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and design tools such as SketchUp, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Ability to lift over 40 lbs.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Weekend and holiday availability.
Nice To Haves
- Experience in retail sales, design consulting, or customer success.
- Background in interior design, architecture, or a related field.
Responsibilities
- Drive sales through personalized design consultations and solutions that meet client needs.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, trade professionals, and the local design community.
- Meet and exceed sales goals and key performance indicators, including revenue targets, conversion rates, and client retention metrics.
- Guide clients through product selection, space planning, and styling.
- Manage the full client lifecycle using CRM tools and outreach strategies to exceed sales goals.
- Maintain visual merchandising standards and contribute to the overall aesthetic of the store.
- Stay current on product knowledge, design trends, and industry developments through training and self-study.
- Conduct in-home consultations and attend off-site meetings with trade clients as needed.
