About The Position
The Dentist provides dental services to inmate patients at assigned facilities while following facility security regulations. The role involves delivering care in accordance with facility standards, maintaining accurate and timely documentation, and supporting compliance with client contracts and compensation requirements. This is a 40-hour-per-week position split between Milwaukee County Jail and the Milwaukee County Community Reintegration Center, with 20 hours at each location. The schedule is four 10-hour shifts, typically Monday through Thursday, with Monday and Wednesday at the jail and Tuesday and Thursday at the Community Reintegration Center. Shift times are flexible by agreement with the dentist and the assistant already on staff. The facilities are approximately 12 miles apart, or about a 20-minute drive. There are no holidays or weekends. Typical duties include reviewing X-rays, performing extractions, annual exams for patients who have been in the facility for a year or more, and treating infections and abscesses. General cleanings are not performed, and complicated extractions are referred out.
Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of dental medicine.
- Have and maintain current dentist licensure in the state of employment.
- Obtain and maintain CPR certification.

- One year of experience in general dentistry is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide dental care and treatment to referred patients in accordance with facility regulations and standards.
- Perform routine restorative dentistry and extractions as needed.
- Evaluate patients’ dental care needs and make clinically appropriate recommendations.
- Review dental X-rays, perform annual exams, and treat infections and abscesses.
- Take impressions for dental appliances and instruct patients in good dental hygiene techniques.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential patient records and provide documentation to the director or designee.
- Provide in-service training for health staff members.
- Adhere to the security regulations of the assigned facilities.
