Riverland Community Health is a Federally-Qualified Health Center in St. Paul, where patients receive community-based Family Practice medical care in addition to mental health, dentistry, social work and other integrated services. JOB SUMMARY: The Dentist/Dental Provider position is responsible for fostering and carrying out superior quality patient care. This position delivers effective and efficient patient care during required clinical time in compliance with established clinical protocols. The Dental Provider is expected to work cooperatively and effectively with the Clinic Manager, the Medical Director, and the Chief Executive Officer, utilizing a balanced and collaborative approach to include the perspective of all disciplines involved in the clinic’s services, ensuring the achievement of annual business and strategic goals, and objectives. This position can be full time or part time.

A working knowledge of public health and preventative care guidelines in oral health care.
The ability to relate with warmth and compassion to patients and co-workers.
The ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.
The ability to be flexible as to the changing needs of the clinic.
Ability to learn and utilize the documentation and database systems at the practice.
Ability to perform the job in accordance with Riverland Community Health’s Standards of Business Conduct, which includes compliance, ethics and integrity, confidentiality, protection of assets and avoidance of conflicts of interest and inappropriate business relationships.
Must have successfully completed dental training at a four (4) year, accredited Dental School and received a DMD or DDS degree.
Successful completion of a residency program in general dentistry or a minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience required.
Demonstrated leadership ability.
Must be licensed to practice Dentistry in Minnesota.
Current BLS certification required.
Maintains a DEA certification.
Must be willing to have a collaborative agreement with any existing and future Advanced Dental Therapists.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience working in Federally Qualified Health Center or community clinic is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide dental services in an outpatient setting, in an organized and efficient manner.
Provide comprehensive oral health care for acute and chronic problems through treatment with preventive and restorative techniques or through referrals to outside sources for services beyond the scope of the practice.
Evaluate patient problems thoroughly and appropriately.
Prescribe or plan appropriate and effective treatment.
Provide clear documentation of patient visit notes, orders, telephone calls, clinical flow sheets and other records as required by quality standards.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills. Effectively communicate with patients, families and other staff members.
Demonstrate sound judgment and decision-making skills and practices within his/her scope of expertise and licensure.
Consult with physicians and other dentists appropriately; knows when to seek advice.
Demonstrate teamwork by working effectively with all team members, attending and participating actively in group meetings and conferring with leadership about any issues that arise.
Work closely with the Clinic Manager, Medical Director, and finance department to ensure that all resources, equipment and supplies are utilized efficiently and are cost-effective.
Respond to organizational needs for leave coverage, office emergencies, chart completion, forms completion, peer review, lab review, and other needs in a cooperative fashion.
Consistently demonstrate a professional demeanor and appearance. Serve as a good role model for staff.
Stay up-to-date in his or her professional field and follows principles of evidence-based medicine. Follow clinical guidelines adopted by the clinic.
Serve as a preceptor or other resource for dental hygienists and dental assistants. May also precept clinical students on a voluntary basis.
Establish rapport with public and private clinical care referral resources.
Participate in QI meetings, peer review sessions and special projects or activities that promote improvement in organizational performance and/or advance the mission, goals and objectives of Riverland Community Health.
Perform other related duties which may be assigned by the Chief Medical Officer, and/or Chief Executive Officer.
Maintain excellent communication and effective working relationships with patients, providers, clinical and administrative team members within RCH and insurance companies, the public and the medical community outside RCH for continuity of high-quality patient care.
Work collaboratively with the Clinic Manager, Medical Director, and Executive Leadership Team in monitoring the performance of the EMR, and oversee updating the system, testing and implementation of new components.
Supports the creation, development, and implementation of Dental department policies and procedures, which are in compliance with the most current accepted professional standards.
Supports the proposal, decision-making, development, implementation and the evaluation of new programs for the dental department.
Maintains an effective quality improvement/quality assurance program and, when required, assists in moving to the next level, given appropriate guidelines and timelines from relevant stakeholders.
Supports appropriate staff in the solicitation, development, management and evaluation of any grants deemed necessary and useful to the function of Riverland Community Health. Provide input for the HRSA reports as necessary.
Provide dental/technical resources to Riverland Community Health and its providers.
Supports development, implementation and evaluation of marketing efforts deemed necessary by Riverland Community Health.
Demonstrate professional interactions with internal and external customers. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals of various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Represent Riverland Community Health positively to the community.
When asked, prepare and submit monthly written reports on Dental Department issues, concerns, program status, initiatives and progress for submission to the Riverland Community Health Provider/Quality Team Meetings.
Actively review evidence-based practice standards, dental care advances and incorporate such standards and advances into the dental practice.
Play a leadership role in understanding, communicating, achieving and maintaining quality standards and Patient Centered Medical Home Principles (PCMH).
Participate in all initiatives and concerns involving patient safety, quality, infection control, risk management and patient service, especially those related to provider issues.
Support a robust peer review and credentialing process, ensuring quality, safety, service and behavioral issues on the part of the dentists are addressed fairly and in a timely fashion.
When asked, provide direction to HR for a short- and long-term dental staff recruitment strategies.
When asked, support the provision of continuing education, on-the-job training, and the orientation of staff as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
