About The Position

The Deli Clerk assists customers with their shopping experience and provides kitchen assistance as needed while following sanitary and health-related protocols. The position reports to the Deli Manager and is classified as non-exempt. A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment, and employees must complete ongoing training and development listed in Cosentino’s Learning Plan. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Requirements

• Obtain a food handling permit within the first 14 days of employment.
• Complete ongoing training and development listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
• Demonstrate the verbal, interpersonal, basic math, and reading skills required for the position.
• Be able to perform the listed physical duties, including prolonged standing and walking, occasional lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds, bending and squatting, and working in coolers and freezers.

Responsibilities

• Clean equipment, food preparation areas, dishes, and utensils in accordance with food safety guidelines.
• Empty and clean trash receptacles.
• Assist the prep cook and kitchen as needed.
• Follow product rotation procedures and monitor product dates.
• Keep coolers, freezers, and preparation areas clean and ready for deliveries.
• Unload incoming shipments promptly and stock items neatly in designated areas without damaging merchandise.
• Meet or exceed productivity standards.
• Learn department items to answer customer questions accurately and courteously.
• Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve store management when appropriate.
• Know and implement Cosentino’s Customer Service Standards.
• Operate, clean, and maintain equipment safely and competently.
• Comply with and encourage compliance with health regulations, sanitation guidelines, and safety procedures.
• Demonstrate verbal and interpersonal skills for positive customer and peer interactions.
• Use the basic math and reading skills required for the position.
• Promote department sales by suggesting additional products and offering samples.
• Create appealing display cases that promote sales and showcase products.
• Complete additional management-assigned tasks, assist other stores or departments as needed, and gain new skills when necessary.
