About The Position

This role is for an innovative and talented technical graduate to join the Multi-Domain System Concepts Group. The position involves conducting simulation and analysis, identifying defensive systems gaps, and developing new system concepts to improve defensive capabilities for the U.S. The individual will apply math, engineering, and physics knowledge to implement models and simulations of real-world and future systems, and analyze sensors, battle management and communications systems, and kinetic and non-kinetic defensive systems. The role will develop skills in analysis, algorithm development, optimization, and modeling and simulation of U.S. Missile Defense, Armed Forces, and Space systems. The primary responsibility is contributing to the development and assessment of U.S. Defense systems. This includes modeling, analyzing, and performing assessments of fielded systems to find opportunities for improvement, proposing and developing innovative concepts/algorithms, and conducting analysis to assess potential future systems performance. Parametric analyses using high performance computing capabilities will be conducted, and prototype capabilities may be developed and transitioned to fielded capabilities. The role also involves developing presentations to communicate technical recommendations to APL leadership, government sponsors, and the engineering community, and contributing to group activities and upholding core values through collaborative teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Physics, Mathematics, or similar degrees.
  • Skilled in and/or have knowledge of programming and analysis, as well as math and physics.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain Top Secret level clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency in MATLAB (or another high level language), especially with Object Orientated Programing and Event Driven Simulations.
  • Domain knowledge of Missile Defense Agency, Space Force, Army, Navy, etc. systems and/or relevant internship experience.
  • Strong background in RF and IR systems, signal processing, communications systems, and algorithm development.
  • A final Secret or Top Secret clearance.
