•$91,800 - $137,600

About The Position

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Systems Modeling & Simulation, Operations Analysis Engineer to support the Systems Engineering organization in Rancho Bernardo, California. The role works on a small, cross-functional team whose modeling and analysis informs investment decisions by senior leadership and customer program offices. The team develops physics-based models and dynamic scenarios, designs focused vignette threads, and conducts operations analysis across system types and domains, including friendly and adversary forces and ground, maritime, air, and space environments. Its work supports clean-sheet and refined system requirements and informs future technologies and capabilities. The engineer collaborates with air vehicle and subsystem engineers, program leaders, and customer leadership to recommend candidate designs and develop Concepts of Operation and Tactics, Techniques and Procedures at the system, mission, and campaign levels. The role also develops or integrates simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models, and command-and-control models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM field and at least 2 years of relevant military or professional experience, or a master's degree in a STEM field and some relevant military, professional, or academic experience.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret or higher clearance, with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or current enrollment in Continuous Evaluation.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Top Secret clearance and Special Access Program (SAP) access within a reasonable period, as determined by the business.
  • Experience with MATLAB, Python, C++, or Java, or experience conducting software-based trade studies.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to work with simulation framework tools such as AFSIM, Suppressor, or STK.
  • Ability to model operational environments and conduct operations analysis and mission effectiveness trade-study analyses.
  • Ability to develop advanced data-analysis visualization tool sets.
  • Proposal development, writing, or execution experience.
  • Operational military background as aircrew (fighter, bomber, RPA pilot, or helicopter), an Electronic Warfare Officer or Weapons Systems Officer, an Air Battle Manager, Naval Flight Officer or Airborne Tactical Officer, or an Intelligence or Communications Officer.
  • Master’s degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university.
  • Experience with system-of-systems modeling tools such as AFSIM, Suppressor, or Brawler.
  • Familiarity with AGILE, MBSE, and/or system architecture frameworks.
  • Effective project management skills and good communication techniques.
  • Experience with version control tools such as Bitbucket, GitHub, or GitLab.

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to present and brief technical data to organizational leadership and the U.S. Government.
  • Current Top Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform operational analysis and mission effectiveness analysis.
  • Develop and translate friendly and adversary tactics into mission-level models, such as AFSIM.
  • Model operational environments, perform computer-simulation trade studies, and recommend alternative architectures.
  • Perform mission engineering activities to maintain continuity between desired operational capabilities and delivered system performance.
  • Trade the performance capabilities of new systems and architectures against cost and mission requirements; develop mission-relevant scenarios; and assess operational effectiveness of existing and emerging systems and capabilities in representative operational environments.
  • Solicit input from stakeholders, synthesize data, and communicate results to organizational leadership at various levels.
  • Develop software to model system behavior in real-time and constructive simulations.
  • Develop, integrate, and use advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools.
  • Develop or integrate system simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models, and command-and-control models.
