About The Position

The Dean of Health Sciences is an administrator of the college and is responsible for promoting academic, administrative, and fiscal leadership in accordance with Broward College's strategic and institutional effectiveness plans. The Dean of the Health Sciences Pathway exercises executive leadership in planning, organizing, directing, and assessing programs and processes that promote academic achievement, innovation, and strategic growth across all levels of the Health Sciences Pathway. Through proactive collaboration, this position implements health sciences development initiatives, strategically evaluates healthcare education trends based on national, state, and local workforce data, and achieves milestones directly aligned with the college's mission, goals, and strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred, ideally in Education, Administration, a Health Sciences discipline, or a closely related field.
  • 7–10 years of progressive management and administrative experience in higher education or a complex healthcare organization.
  • Direct teaching and/or professional work-related experience in the health sciences field.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills, including sound judgment, flexibility, and decisiveness in driving strategic planning and managing complex institutional issues.
  • Active professional license or certification in a healthcare field.

  • Doctorate preferred, ideally in Education, Administration, a Health Sciences discipline, or a closely related field.

Responsibilities

  • Provides executive leadership for identifying, articulating, and executing program needs and innovative curricula identified by faculty, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Strategically drives the development of new programs and pathway articulations to transfer institutions based on rigorous healthcare workforce analytics and emerging industry trends.
  • Partners closely with Associate Deans to direct systematic program evaluations, strategic alignment, and continuous instructional improvement.
  • Communicates and collaborates regularly with executive leaders in the private and public sectors, cultivating highly effective advisory committees for each health science program pathway.
  • Develops and leverages robust partnerships with community stakeholders and healthcare networks to secure mandatory student clinical placements, faculty resources, and external program support.
  • Represents Broward College in high-level interactions with hospitals, governmental bodies, local health care providers and regulatory agencies that interface with healthcare research, education, and practice.
  • Collaborates directly with the College Foundation to spearhead strategic fundraising and development initiatives on behalf of the Health Science programs.
  • Reviews, executes, and implements college affiliation agreements between Broward College and external entities (hospitals, clinics, Fire Rescue departments, dental practices, and educational institutions).
  • Mitigates institutional risk by identifying compliance with clinical agency guidelines, resolving contractual disputes alongside legal counsel, and ensuring complete student compliance with background checks and medical requirements.
  • Provides direct executive oversight for all programmatic accreditation processes, guaranteeing continuous compliance with state, federal, and specialized health profession board standards.
  • Monitors, interprets, and enforces adherence to changing State and Federal regulations governing healthcare workforce education.
  • Directs departments and specialized programs in a manner that ensures absolute compliance during self-studies, external audits, and national accreditation site visits.
  • Oversees the protection, governance, and safe keeping of highly confidential data acquired during the operational course of work.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and mentors Associate Deans, program directors, faculty, and support staff within the degree and certificate programs, fostering a culture of excellence in instruction and scholarly productivity.
  • Directs the strategic design of hiring committees for faculty and staff, actively participating in the selection and retention of top-tier personnel.
  • Leads teaching, learning, and student support services by enhancing professional development opportunities and supporting faculty orientation.
  • Fosters a cooperative, transparent work climate built on communication, trust, and shared accountability among administration, faculty, and support staff.
  • Models inclusive excellence through specific leadership actions that champion the College's diversity goals in the recruitment, hiring, and retention of workforce talent.
  • Prepares, administers, and manages large-scale departmental health science budgets in a manner conducive to the most efficient allocation of human, fiscal, and physical resources.
  • Leads multi-year capital forecasting and equipment replacement planning to ensure health science simulation spaces and labs remain state-of-the-art.
  • Participates in seeking, developing, and managing external state, federal, and private grants that promote the strategic objectives of the department and college.
  • Monitors enrollment metrics and partners strategically with Admissions and Recruiters across multi-campus locations to ensure target enrollment, retention, and student success goals are met.
  • Collaborates with regional hospital partners to secure external student scholarships and dedicated pathway funding.
