About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is seeking a Data Analyst – Power BI to join the Enterprise Applications Data Team. The role owns the design, development, security, and documentation of Power BI reporting across manufacturing, HR, and leadership functions. Working with business owners, IT Security, and MES/ERP teams, the analyst transforms data from Tulip MES, NetSuite ERP, Rippling, SharePoint, and the enterprise data lake into governed dashboards supporting operational and executive decisions. The role applies AST’s Power BI development standards, including group-based access, service-account connections, row-level security, and thorough documentation, while helping expand self-service analytics. The position is based on-site in Midland, Texas, with occasional time on the manufacturing floor and occasional travel between AST sites as business needs require. Duties and scope may change according to business demands.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience as a Data Analyst, BI Developer, or in a similar role, including at least 3 years of hands-on enterprise Power BI development.
  • Strong SQL skills, including joins, CTEs, window functions, and query optimization, against relational databases or data warehouses.
  • Experience with Power BI Desktop and Service, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, workspaces, Apps, gateways, scheduled refresh, and RLS.
  • Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and integrating data from multiple enterprise systems, such as ERP, MES, HRIS, SaaS, and files.
  • Experience defining and tracking operational KPIs and translating business questions into measurable, documented metrics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to data accuracy.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and present findings clearly to executives.
  • Ability to collaborate across Manufacturing, HR, Finance, IT Security, and Enterprise Applications teams.
  • Documentation discipline, treating documentation as part of the deliverable.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a standard office environment and use a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to work on-site in Midland, Texas, including occasional time on the manufacturing floor to understand processes and validate data.
  • Ability to travel occasionally between AST sites as business needs require.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300); Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) is a plus.
  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or another regulated production environment; familiarity with OEE, yield, throughput, and cycle-time reporting.
  • Experience with MES and ERP data, especially Tulip and NetSuite.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms such as Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Azure SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or AWS S3, Glue, and Apache Iceberg.
  • Experience with service principals/Azure AD app registrations, Power BI deployment pipelines, and Git-based version control.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data preparation, automation, or forecasting.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled analytics, such as Copilot in Power BI, anomaly detection, or forecasting.
  • Python is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, publish, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models for the AST & Science Global, AST Leadership, Midland HR, and Midland Manufacturing workspaces.
  • Partner with each report’s named Business Owner to gather requirements, define KPIs and metric definitions, and validate data accuracy before production publication.
  • Build dimensional star-schema data models, DAX measures, and Power Query transformations; write targeted SQL queries that extract only required data rather than full-table loads.
  • Source and integrate data from Tulip MES, NetSuite ERP, Rippling, SharePoint/Excel, and the enterprise data lake, using curated silver and gold layers and collaborating with data engineering on medallion architecture.
  • Work with MES and architecture teams to define reporting data points for manufacturing KPIs, including work-order progress, step durations, cycle time, and efficiency.
  • Implement Row-Level and Object-Level Security based on ISA-95 scope blocks and functional domains, using Microsoft Entra ID security groups rather than individual user access.
  • Configure data connections with approved service accounts or service principals, manage credentials in 1Password, and manage gateways and scheduled refreshes.
  • Apply Power BI workspace governance, including admin groups at workspace creation, role-based access, App-based distribution, and Contributor enablement for self-service reporting from published datasets.
  • Create and maintain required documentation for every report: Architecture Overview (ARCH), Data Source Details (DS), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), Access & Security (ACCESS), and Issue Log (ISSUE).
  • Diagnose and resolve refresh failures, credential issues, and data-quality problems; perform root-cause analysis and manage requests through the Enterprise Applications Jira queue.
  • Optimize report and model performance, including incremental refresh, query folding, and model size reduction, and recommend reporting-platform improvements.
  • Train and support business users and Contributors on Power BI usage, standards, and self-service best practices.
  • Support ad-hoc analysis and executive reporting requests for operations, manufacturing, HR, and leadership stakeholders.
