About The Position

The Dairy Clerk creates an outstanding customer experience through exceptional service and helps maintain a safe, clean environment that encourages customers to return. The role assists the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals and monitors quality assurance standards. The position provides product information and recommendations, offers samples, informs customers of specials, and supplies fresh ordered products. It also involves checking product freshness, labeling and stocking merchandise, maintaining inventory, reporting ordering or shipping discrepancies, following food safety and temperature-control requirements, and supporting a safe and well-maintained department. The clerk must work cooperatively in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment and provide assistance to customers who may be minors, have special needs, or be older adults. Essential functions must be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Requirements

Retail experience.
Ability to handle stressful situations.
Effective communication skills.
Knowledge of basic math, including counting, addition, and subtraction.

Responsibilities

Promote trust and respect among associates.
Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions about products sold in the department and throughout the store.
Maintain product knowledge and answer questions or make product suggestions.
Offer product samples to help customers discover items or products they ask about.
Inform customers of dairy specials.
Provide customers with fresh products they have ordered.
Recommend dairy items to help customers find the products they want and need.
Check product quality and freshness, review sell-by dates, and take appropriate action.
Label, stock, and inventory department merchandise.
Report product ordering and shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
Maintain a positive attitude and stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special advertisements.
Follow food safety regulations and guidelines.
Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and keep temperature logs.
Follow safety procedures, identify unsafe conditions, and notify store management.
Inspect equipment for preventive maintenance needs and notify the appropriate department or store manager of items needing repair.
Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
Report safety risks, issues, and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
Work cooperatively in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
Manage conflict reasonably, cooperatively, and without confrontation.
Handle customer and business information with honesty and integrity.
Follow directions and seek assistance as needed to resolve customer and business issues.
Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
