Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has multiple openings for graduate students in its Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI). Interns will apply their skills to cybersecurity projects aligned with LLNL’s national security missions, including developing and implementing tools and capabilities to mitigate advanced threats and addressing the cybersecurity of civilian and defense critical infrastructure. The 2027 program takes place during the summer, with start dates ranging from May 17, 2027, to June 21, 2027, and flexible end dates through September 24, 2027. Interns provide technical and research support to cybersecurity, critical infrastructure, and related projects, working with scientists, engineers, and technical staff. Assignments may include research in areas such as network and protocol analysis, intrusion detection, reverse engineering, incident response, malware analysis, systems programming, threat and risk analysis, operational technology and industrial control systems cybersecurity, software tool development, and artificial intelligence or machine learning. Participants also attend on-site seminars and training, take part in professional and technical development activities, network with interns and Laboratory employees, and present their work through presentations or poster sessions. The position requires the selected candidate to be a U.S. person because the work involves U.S. export control. No security clearance is required. External applicants selected for the role must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Depending on assigned duties, work in Limited Areas may restrict possession of personal or Laboratory mobile and wireless devices.
