About The Position

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory has multiple openings for graduate students in its Cyber and Critical Infrastructure Summer Institute (CSI). Interns will work on topics related to critical infrastructure security and resilience that align with LLNL’s national security missions. The 2027 program runs during the summer, with start dates ranging from May 17, 2027, through June 21, 2027, and flexible end dates through September 24, 2027. The program offers opportunities to apply skills to nationally important projects, including critical infrastructure risk analysis and security, energy infrastructure modernization and resilience, and defense critical infrastructure. Participants can also take part in professional and technical development activities with Laboratory subject matter experts, network with interns and employees, and learn about LLNL’s support for U.S. national security. The intern will provide technical or research support to projects involving critical infrastructure analysis, modeling and simulation, cybersecurity, and related fields. Work is conducted with scientists, engineers, and technical staff. The intern will support development, testing, and documentation of Laboratory methodologies and capabilities and conduct research under limited direction and supervision. Assignments may involve risk or decision analysis, infrastructure modeling or simulation, threat or hazard modeling, data analysis, open-source research and analysis, systems engineering, system decomposition, operations research or optimization, and artificial intelligence or machine learning. The intern will perform basic-complexity technical assignments, attend at least one relevant on-site seminar or training class per week, and present work through presentations or poster sessions. The position involves U.S. export-controlled work and must be performed by a U.S. person. No security clearance is required. Selected external applicants must pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test. Depending on job duties, work in Limited Areas may restrict possession of personal or Laboratory mobile and wireless devices.
