About The Position

Vulcan Materials Company is seeking a Customer Service / Yard employee to provide courteous customer service and make prompt, accurate deliveries and pickups. The role includes loading and unloading trucks, retrieving warehouse materials to fill customer orders, assisting customers, and performing general warehouse duties. The employee drives a company vehicle, follows traffic and safety procedures, and keeps the vehicle presentable. The role also includes vehicle and forklift inspections and arranging routine or repair maintenance as needed. All work must be performed safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner, with other duties completed as directed. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement, and the salary is determined by its applicable scale.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Possess a valid Class A commercial driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Have a current long-form physical and medical card.
• Be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Be able to communicate information effectively in one-on-one and small-group situations with customers, clients, and employees.
• Maintain a professional and courteous attitude toward coworkers, supervisors, and the public.
• Be willing to work in a team environment and assist coworkers or supervisors with other duties as required.
• Be able to add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s, including using American units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
• Be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
• Be able to work outside in all types of weather and tolerate loud noises.

Nice To Haves

• Related commercial driver’s license (CDL) experience and/or training.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt and courteous delivery of customer orders and make pickups as needed.
• Perform general warehouse duties and assist customers as needed.
• Load trucks accurately and safely for customer deliveries.
• Unload trucks at customer or branch locations as needed.
• Drive a company vehicle for customer deliveries and stock pickups while obeying traffic laws and safety procedures.
• Retrieve materials from the warehouse and other locations to fill customer orders.
• Inspect vehicles and/or forklifts as required and schedule routine or repair maintenance as needed.
• Keep the truck presentable and clean it as needed.
• Follow safety rules, perform duties responsibly, and inform the manager of potentially hazardous conditions.
• Perform other responsibilities as directed.
