About The Position

DeKalb County Central United School District is seeking a Custodian at DeKalb Middle School. Under the supervision of school administration and the Head Custodian, the Custodian maintains an assigned school facility, group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner according to a predetermined schedule, and performs other related work as required.

This is a 40-hour-per-week position, Monday through Friday, with a half-hour meal break. The district describes its workplace as a positive, team-focused environment committed to providing a safe and engaging place for students and staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency.
• Ability to perform moderately to heavy manual activities.
• Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals and working knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned school facilities, buildings, or office spaces in a clean, orderly, and secure manner.
• Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and seal floors; vacuum rugs and carpets.
• Dust, wash, and polish furniture and woodwork.
• Empty and clean waste receptacles, including trash barrels.
• Clean restrooms, locker rooms, and showers.
• Wash windows and walls, polish metalwork, and clean whiteboards.
• Move and arrange furniture and equipment to prepare multipurpose rooms or classrooms for events and meetings.
• Replace light bulbs and lighting tubes.
• Clean window coverings, including drapes and blinds.
• Pick up debris from school grounds, walk areas, and areas adjacent to school facilities; sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to school buildings.
• Perform emergency cleanup resulting from breakage, vandalism, spills, and illness.
• Raise and lower flags; lock and unlock gates and doors; and set security systems, as needed.
• Assist with receiving and distributing supplies and equipment.
• Occasionally perform routine grounds maintenance.
• Assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by school administration and/or the Head Custodian.
