Casual Custodian
About The Position
This is a casual Custodian position. Casual employees work on an as-needed basis or are regularly scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week and are not eligible for benefits. Shifts vary and may include days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends. The pay rate is $16.00 per hour at the Flint Cultural Center Academy and $14.00 per hour at all other sites. Under the direction of the Custodial Supervisor, the Custodian performs high-quality, day-to-day cleaning at one or more facilities on the Flint Cultural Center Campus. Duties include general, cyclical, and special-request cleaning, as well as standard classroom and community-room setups and tear downs.
Requirements
- Evidence of stable education and/or work history.
- Demonstrated ability to properly perform the described duties.
- Ability to interact pleasantly with the public while performing job-related duties.
- Ability to follow proper cleaning procedures and safety practices when cleaning human fluids and other hazardous materials.
- Ability to use cleaning products and chemicals and follow safety procedures.
- Understand the importance of collections and artifacts; do not clean or move artifacts or enter collection spaces without consent from the Curator of Collections or their staff.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to remain on feet for prolonged periods.
- Regular and prompt attendance at work.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience as a custodian or in the cleaning field.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Responsibilities
- Scrub, sanitize, and supply restroom facilities.
- Keep buildings in orderly condition.
- Dust furniture, walls, equipment, and unrestricted areas.
- Clean windows, mirrors, and partitions.
- Follow procedures for using chemicals and cleaning equipment to avoid damage and maintain floors.
- Inform the Custodial Supervisor about unsafe or broken building hardware or exhibit components and needed maintenance or repairs.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, or scrub floors.
- Gather and empty trash, including daily disposal.
- Clean classrooms, cafés, theaters, kitchens, common areas, and offices.
- Clean barriers and hands-on components after training.
- Report needed light bulbs or broken fixtures.
- Assist other staff members as time and schedule permit.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks when necessary.
- Set up areas for activities as needed.
- Follow checklists for cyclical cleaning tasks.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
