About The Position

The Custodian is responsible for the general maintenance and cleanliness of equipment, facilities, and grounds at an industrial laundry facility. The role performs cleaning, sanitation, supply restocking, basic maintenance, and outdoor upkeep; may move materials using a powered industrial truck; and may assist other departments or work in other production positions as needed. The position is also referred to as Janitor. Other tasks may be assigned.

Requirements

Recognize colors and sizes, and count and sort accurately.
In some locations, be able and certified to safely operate a powered industrial truck.
Have basic knowledge of cleaning products and procedures, or be willing to learn.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively with a team.
Ability to work independently and comprehend and follow written or verbal directions.
Ability to meet the physical demands for the entire shift.
Successfully complete background and safety-sensitive drug screening as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

Perform heavy cleaning duties, including cleaning plant equipment with compressed air and other methods.
Scrub, sanitize, vacuum, sweep, and mop.
Dispose of trash; clean spills; replace air fresheners and light bulbs; lock doors; paint; maintain water coolers; and prepare facilities for meetings, banquets, and other events.
Clean offices, bathrooms, break rooms, and other areas.
Move furniture, supplies, textiles, or equipment within departments or into storage, and assist other departments with tasks.
Apply insecticides and fumigants, trim shrubbery, perform other outside maintenance, and clear walkways of snow or leaves.
Participate in safety programs, use personal protective equipment as needed, and notify supervision of repair needs, spills, safety concerns, or hazardous situations.
Maintain records of maintenance, monitor cleaning supplies, and restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms, and other areas.
Operate a powered industrial truck to move, transfer, load, and unload materials, where applicable.
Meet efficiency and safety standards, follow supervisory instructions, and keep the work area neat and clean.
Work in other production positions as needed.
Perform other tasks as required.
