About The Position

This position is located at JBLM Family and MWR - Community Recreation Division - Sports, Fitness & Aquatics. The Custodial Worker is responsible for cleaning rooms, corridors, stairways, and other areas. This includes sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, scrubbing, stripping, and polishing using light and heavy-duty powered equipment. The role also involves operating industrial equipment for cleaning rugs and drapes, performing routine maintenance of equipment, and cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing toilet facilities. The worker will clean and dust assigned areas, empty trash, and may be responsible for making beds and changing linen. Additionally, they will wash walls, windows, blinds, and ceiling fixtures using ladders, scaffolds, and safety belts, and move heavy furniture. Maintaining an adequate stock of room and cleaning supplies is also a key duty. The position requires the ability to follow instructions, read signs, and possess basic knowledge of common cleaning solvents, tools, and equipment. A variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions will be used to remove different types of stains from various surfaces. The role includes troubleshooting, making adjustments, and performing minor repairs and maintenance on equipment. Work is performed independently under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Must have ability to follow instructions and read signs.
  • Must have a basic knowledge of common cleaning solvents, cleaning tools, and equipment.
  • Uses a variety of special cleaning and sanitizing solutions to remove different kinds of stains from a wide variety of surfaces.
  • Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
  • Meet qualification/eligibility/background requirements for this position.
  • A one-year probationary period may be required.
  • Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
  • Incumbent may also be required to complete a Tier 1 background investigation for a Common Access Card for physical access to federally-controlled facilities.
  • Appointment subject to satisfactory completion of all pre-employment checks in accordance with AR 215-3, para.2.
  • Must meet physical requirements of the position.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required.
  • Required standing and walking on hard and carpeted surfaces with some bending, lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of items or carts weighing up to 20 to 40 pounds, and occasionally over 50 pounds.
  • Must have knowledge, skills and ability to perform the duties listed above to include the ability to use and maintain the tools and equipment of the trade, to keep the assigned work area neat and clean, and to communicate both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities
