About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations that improve the quality of life for community residents. This specific role is a partnership with Empower College Prep (ECP), a 501(c)(3) organization located in Phoenix, AZ. ECP's mission is to empower students to become curious learners, critical thinkers, and confident leaders prepared for college, career, and life. This position is approved as Community Service Learning Program (CSLP) and Federal Work-Study (FWS), meaning the services are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents and are open and accessible to the community. Student workers in this role may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year and are eligible to work during the summer. Applicants must complete their FAFSA to be reviewed for FWS eligibility.

Requirements

• Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
• Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
• Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
• Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
• Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
• Must have reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

• Previous Mentoring a plus.
• Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Responsibilities

• Conduct routine campus walkthroughs and report concerns, including students outside of class without appropriate authorization.
• Deliver detention notices and related communications to teachers.
• Retrieve student cell phones from classrooms at the request of teachers.
• Supervise students as needed when the Culture Coordinator is conducting campus rounds, and coordinate with the Vice Principal regarding any issues that arise.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
