About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations like the American Red Cross to offer community service opportunities. This internship focuses on supporting the American Red Cross's mission to alleviate human suffering through volunteers. The student worker will gain experience in administrative support, volunteer recruitment, project management, and collaboration within a mission-driven environment. This position is approved as Community Service under the Federal Work-Study program (FWS-CSLP) and requires applicants to be eligible for FWS by completing the FAFSA. The work schedule is dependent on the American Red Cross's needs, with a maximum of 20 hours per week during the academic year and potential for summer work.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Represent the American Red Cross with professionalism, compassion, and respect while interacting with volunteers, donors, clients, and community partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Mentoring a plus.
  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with roster management and tracking.
  • Update and maintain website content.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain documents, reports, presentations, databases, and other materials.
  • Provide general administrative support.
  • Conduct outreach to prospective volunteers and assist with initial screening.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and support recruitment events.
  • Attend recruitment and community engagement events.
  • Assist in building and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers and community partners.
  • Develop professional skills through hands-on assignments, research, planning, analysis, and project support.
  • Support Focus Community initiatives and special events.
  • Assist with program planning, coordination, and implementation.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and recommendations to improve processes, programs, and participant experiences.
  • Participate in special projects aligned with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and fellow interns to share ideas, solve problems, and achieve project objectives.
  • Communicate professionally with staff, volunteers, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in trainings, team meetings, and networking opportunities.
