About The Position

Grand Canyon University (GCU) partners with nonprofit organizations, such as the American Red Cross, to provide community service opportunities for students. This internship focuses on supporting the American Red Cross's mission to alleviate human suffering through volunteers. The student worker's schedule is flexible but limited to 20 hours per week during the academic year and potentially during the summer. This position is approved as Community Service under FWS-CSLP, meaning services are offered to non-GCU community members and aim to improve the quality of life for community residents. Applicants must complete their FAFSA to be considered for FWS eligibility.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at GCU in a bachelor’s program or master’s program full-time during fall/spring or half-time during summer.
  • Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
  • Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.
  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Represent the American Red Cross with professionalism, compassion, and respect while interacting with volunteers, donors, clients, and community partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Mentoring a plus.
  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records.
  • Assist with roster management and tracking.
  • Update and maintain website content.
  • Develop, organize, and maintain documents, reports, presentations, databases, and other materials.
  • Provide general administrative support.
  • Conduct outreach to prospective volunteers and assist with initial screening activities.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and support recruitment events.
  • Attend recruitment and community engagement events.
  • Assist in building and maintaining positive relationships with volunteers and community partners.
  • Develop professional skills through hands-on assignments, research, planning, analysis, and project support.
  • Support Focus Community initiatives and special events.
  • Assist with program planning, coordination, and implementation.
  • Contribute innovative ideas and recommendations to improve processes, programs, and participant experiences.
  • Participate in special projects aligned with organizational goals.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and fellow interns to share ideas, solve problems, and achieve project objectives.
  • Communicate professionally with staff, volunteers, community partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in trainings, team meetings, and networking opportunities.
