Credit & Collections Specialist

Tricon Wear Solutions•Irondale, AL

About The Position

Tricon Wear Solutions is hiring an experienced individual contributor to manage accounts receivable collections and make credit decisions. The role focuses on collecting past-due invoices through phone calls, email, and customer accounts-payable portals while maintaining established customer relationships. It is neither an entry-level AR clerk position nor a management position. The specialist manages a defined AR portfolio, processes credit applications and customer payments, handles credit holds and order releases, resolves deductions and payment discrepancies, maintains customer records, and contributes to cash forecasting. The Controller defines authority limits for credit, payment terms, and write-offs and reviews them monthly. Performance is measured by DSO against target, past-due balances over 60 days as a share of total AR, collections compared with the monthly forecast, and the clearance of aged unapplied cash and open credit balances.

Requirements

  • At least three years of business-to-business credit and collections experience.
  • Comfort making outbound collection calls and directly asking customers for payment.
  • Track record of independently resolving deductions, short-pays, and billing disputes.
  • Proficiency in an ERP accounts-receivable module and experience navigating customer AP portals such as Coupa, SAP Ariba, or OpenInvoice.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and reconciling large aging files.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • SAP experience (FI/AR or S/4HANA).
  • Background in construction, mining, industrial distribution, or manufacturing.
  • Experience maintaining customer master records and multi-state sales tax exemption certificates.
  • Associate degree in accounting or business.
  • NACM coursework or CBA/CBF certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work a defined accounts-receivable portfolio daily and reduce past-due balances and DSO against monthly targets.
  • Call and email customers about past-due invoices and research payment status in customer AP portals.
  • Document customer contacts, promises to pay, and commitment dates in the ERP.
  • Negotiate payment plans within approved authority and escalate broken commitments with a recommendation.
  • Process credit applications by reviewing credit reports and trade references and recommending credit limits and terms.
  • Manage credit holds and order releases in coordination with sales and customer service.
  • Research short-pays, chargebacks, and unapplied credits against source documents and resolve them with sales and operations.
  • Recommend write-offs and maintain bad-debt reserve support.
  • Set up and maintain customer master records with inside sales, including sales tax exemption certificates.
  • Apply customer payments daily and resolve remittance-matching exceptions.
  • Back up AR invoicing and AP processing during month-end close, PTO, and peak periods.
  • Contribute expected collections by account to the weekly and monthly cash forecast.
