About The Position

The Crane Field Service Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on mobile cranes, tower cranes, and lifting equipment at customer job sites and company facilities. This role requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills, the ability to work independently in the field, and a commitment to delivering safe, high‑quality service.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in heavy equipment, crane service, or hydraulic systems.
Strong knowledge of hydraulics, diesel engines, electrical systems, CAN‑bus, and load‑moment indicators.
Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and hydraulic flow charts.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work at heights, in outdoor environments, and around active construction operations.
Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Understand and carry out oral instructions

Nice To Haves

OEM certifications (Grove, Tadano, Liebherr, Manitowoc, Terex, Link‑Belt).
NCCCO or equivalent crane/rigging certifications.
Welding or fabrication experience.

Responsibilities

Perform field diagnostics and repairs on hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical crane systems, including booms, winches, engines, control systems, outriggers, and load‑moment indicators.
Conduct inspections, document findings, and recommend corrective actions.
Troubleshoot complex issues using OEM software, schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic tools.
Complete preventive maintenance including lubrication, adjustments, filter changes, torque checks, and functional testing.
Respond to emergency service calls and support projects with downtime‑critical repairs.
Install and calibrate crane safety systems, sensors, and electronic components.
Perform load testing and assist with commissioning new or rebuilt cranes.
Maintain accurate service documentation, including work orders, parts usage, inspection reports, and field notes.
Communicate effectively with site personnel, providing clear explanations of issues, repair options, and timelines.
Follow all safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, rigging best practices, and site‑specific requirements.
Collaborate with parts and service providers to ensure timely completion of repairs.

Inspection of rigging equipment and hardware
Knowledge and application of common hitches, Emergency stop signal, Basic crane hand signals, Knot tying (bowline & clove hitch), and use of rigging equipment relevant to craft specific tasks
Install and/or use inclined plane devices (e.g., ramp, wedge, and chokers, etc.
Lubricate, service, and maintain bearings
Demonstrate proper use and care of power transmission devices
Perform basic service and preventive maintenance on internal combustion engines
Perform cleanup and disassembly/reassembly of heavy equipment
Perform service and maintenance on hydraulic systems
Perform service and maintenance on cooling systems
Perform service and maintenance on brake systems
Perform inspections, service and maintenance on equipment
Perform service and maintenance on electrical devices and systems on heavy equipment
Perform service and maintenance on all cable and hydraulic lifting devices
Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds and maintains construction equipment such as cranes, power shovels, scrapers, dozers, motor graders, paving machines, trench digging machines, conveyors, dredges, pumps, compressors, and pneumatic tools.
Operates and inspects machines and equipment to diagnose defects.
Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists and handtools.
Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers amd gauges.
Replaces defective parts, engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions.
Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
Welds broken parts and structural members.
May direct workers engaged in cle3aning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
May repair, adjust, and maintain all different types of machinery, such as graders, loaders, shovels, hoes, paving and curbing machines, truck tractors, tandem to axle dump trucks, various light duty and heavy duty trailers including detach neck lowboys and hydraulic landolls, fleet light duty vehicles, and all others that are added to the constructino site.
