CRAFT TRAINING MANAGER

Nox Group•Reno, NV

About The Position

The Craft Training Manager is the regional operational and people leader of the Workforce Development (WFD) department. Reporting to the Director of Workforce Development, the role manages 3–8 Craft Trainers and WFD Specialists and is accountable for the quality, consistency, and impact of training delivery across regional projects. The position primarily supports and develops trainers rather than directly training craft workers, serving as the link between field execution and WFD strategy. The manager translates leadership needs into practical jobsite training plans and shares field insights to inform program decisions. The role includes leadership and coaching of a distributed team; coordination of training requests, schedules, and project readiness; validation and analysis of Versatility Matrix data and training metrics; reporting on performance and impact; and collaboration with Construction, Field Operations, QA/QC, and HSE. The manager may provide direct training coverage during trainer absences or peak workloads and regularly travels between project sites in the assigned region. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to applicable company policies, including drug testing and background checks. The role may involve physical activities and conditions described in the posting.

Requirements

  • Experience managing training programs and leading, coaching, and developing training staff in a construction or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing a team distributed across multiple job sites, balancing onsite presence with virtual oversight.
  • Experience with construction scheduling and look-ahead planning, such as Touchplan, and working directly with field leadership such as General Superintendents.
  • Strong analytical skills, including interpreting workforce data such as skills or versatility matrices and presenting actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of safety regulations, craft standards, and jobsite operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Ability to travel regularly between project sites within the assigned region.
  • Ability to safely perform potentially required physical activities, including lifting up to 50 pounds; pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing; and potentially operating a motor vehicle, crane, tractor, or similar equipment.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; applicable policies, including drug testing and background checks, apply.

Nice To Haves

  • NCCER certification or OSHA Trainer certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills; preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and oversee trainers through onsite observations and virtual check-ins, focusing on facilitation quality and documentation.
  • Document at least one observation of each Craft Trainer monthly and use observations for trimester one-on-one development conversations.
  • Review and approve project training requests daily, validating timing, field progression, crew craft level, and existing site qualifications.
  • Monitor the training request queue, ensure timely fulfillment, and address recurring request issues with the General Superintendent.
  • Coordinate weekly with General Superintendents and, as needed, HSE or Quality Managers to validate training priorities and manpower readiness.
  • Align trainers’ three-week look-ahead schedules with project forecasts and Touchplan each week, correcting mismatches before they affect field work.
  • Provide direct field training coverage during trainer absences or peak workload periods.
  • Validate weekly Versatility Matrix updates for completeness, scoring accuracy, and timely entry, and address late updates within the same week.
  • Analyze regional training metrics, including participation, skill development, and Versatility Matrix progression, and submit monthly insights and recommendations to the Director of WFD.
  • Present quarterly performance and impact summaries to the Directors of Construction and WFD, linking training, safety, skill readiness, and field results.
  • Ensure training complies with company policies, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory standards, and maintain accurate training records and certifications in the LMS and training databases.
  • Represent WFD at weekly project and field operations meetings with current training status, plans, and manpower needs.
  • Participate in monthly Field Operations forecast meetings with a 60–90 day view of trainer capacity and projected project demand, proposing solutions for coverage gaps.
  • Partner with QA/QC, HSE, and Field Operations to align training with field needs, nonconformance trends, and safety patterns; participate in Joint Root Cause Analysis and recommend training responses to the Director of WFD.
  • Facilitate quarterly WFD department reviews of module updates, process improvements, and system refinements, and own agendas, decisions, and action-item follow-up.
  • Support development and testing of new training modules through the T3 process; maintain standardized training materials, kits, and reference documentation; and manage curriculum gaps through resolution.
