CRAFT TRAINING MANAGER

Corbins•Reno, NV

About The Position

The Craft Training Manager is the regional operational and people leader of the Workforce Development (WFD) department, reporting to the Director of Workforce Development. The role manages a team of 3–8 Craft Trainers and WFD Specialists and is accountable for the quality, consistency, and impact of training delivery across regional projects. Rather than primarily training craft workers, the manager equips, supports, and develops trainers, connecting field execution with WFD strategy. The position translates leadership needs into practical jobsite training plans and shares field insights to inform program decisions. The manager oversees trainer development, training requests and schedules, workforce data and reporting, regulatory compliance, and collaboration with project and field leadership. The role may also provide direct field training coverage during trainer absences or peak workload periods. Regular travel between project sites within the assigned region is required.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in a skilled craft trade, including at least 2 years in a training or supervisory role.
  • Proven experience managing training programs and leading, coaching, and developing training staff in a construction or industrial environment.
  • Experience managing a team distributed across multiple job sites, balancing on-site presence with virtual oversight.
  • Experience with construction scheduling and look-ahead planning, such as Touchplan, and working directly with field leaders such as General Superintendents.
  • Strong analytical skills, including the ability to interpret workforce data such as skills or versatility matrices and present clear, actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of safety regulations, craft standards, and jobsite operations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Ability to travel regularly between project sites within the assigned region.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the role’s inherent physical responsibilities, which may include lifting up to 50 pounds; repeated pushing, pulling, carrying, reaching, walking, standing, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and climbing; and potentially operating a motor vehicle, crane, tractor, or similar equipment.
  • This is a safety-sensitive position; applicable policies, including drug testing and background checks, apply.

Nice To Haves

  • NCCER certification or OSHA Trainer certification.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct weekly check-ins with each Craft Trainer to review look-ahead schedules, Versatility Matrix (VM) updates, project feedback, and support needs.
  • Coach and oversee trainers through field observations and virtual check-ins, focusing on facilitation quality and documentation.
  • Document at least one observation of each Craft Trainer monthly and use observation records in trimester one-on-one development conversations.
  • Review and approve project training requests daily, checking just-in-time alignment, crew craft level, and existing qualifications recorded in the VM.
  • Monitor the training request queue, ensure timely fulfillment, and address recurring request issues with the General Superintendent.
  • Coordinate weekly with General Superintendents and, as needed, HSE or Quality Managers to validate training priorities and manpower readiness before mobilizations and scope transitions.
  • Align trainers’ three-week look-ahead schedules with project forecasts and Touchplan each week, resolving mismatches before they affect field operations.
  • Provide direct field training coverage during trainer absences or peak workload periods.
  • Validate weekly VM updates for completeness, scoring accuracy, and timely entry, and address late updates in the same week.
  • Analyze regional training performance metrics, including participation, skill development, and VM progression, and provide monthly insights and recommendations to the Director of WFD.
  • Present quarterly performance and impact summaries to the Directors of Construction and WFD, relating training, safety, and skill readiness to production trends, nonconformance rates, and crew readiness at mobilization.
  • Ensure training complies with company policies, OSHA, and other applicable regulations, and maintain accurate records and certifications in the LMS and training databases.
  • Represent WFD at weekly project and field operations meetings with current training status, upcoming plans, and training-related manpower needs.
  • Participate in monthly Field Operations forecast meetings, assessing trainer capacity against projected demand 60–90 days ahead and proposing solutions to coverage gaps.
  • Partner with QA/QC, HSE, and Field Operations to align training with field needs, nonconformance trends, and safety patterns; participate in Joint Root Cause Analysis and recommend training responses to the Director of WFD.
  • Facilitate quarterly WFD department reviews of module updates, process improvements, and system refinements, including agenda, decisions, and follow-up actions.
  • Support development and testing of training modules through the T3 process; maintain standardized training materials, kits, and reference documentation; and manage curriculum gaps through resolution.
