Veterans Treatment Court is one of eight Problem-Solving Courts operating in the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. Problem-solving courts support the rehabilitation of carefully screened defendants who are willing to change their behavior by connecting them with counseling, addiction or illness treatment, educational assistance, and healthcare support. Participants who complete all treatment phases graduate and are released from court supervision. Depending on the terms of a participant’s individual contract, successful completion may lead to reduced or dismissed charges or a more favorable sentence. First-time offenders may have their cases nolle prossed and may qualify to have their arrest records sealed or expunged; other participants may receive adjudication withheld. The case manager assists the court in providing case management and supervision to veteran participants, monitors their court and treatment progress and compliance, gathers and tracks current case information, prepares court reports, facilitates communication among parties, schedules case conferences, and recommends options and alternatives for court consideration. The position also works to minimize duplicate efforts.
