About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Course Coordinator for GEOG 2P14 - Geographies of Alcohol in Niagara for the Winter D3 term. This role reports to the Department Chair or Course Instructor and involves overseeing seminar/tutorial/lab sections, coordinating Teaching Assistants, assisting with marking schemes, and coordinating the marking of assignments and exams. The position is governed by the Collective Agreement for part-time Instructor, Teaching Assistant, Lab Demonstrator, Course Coordinator and Marker-Grader positions at Brock University.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed a Honours Degree in Geography or equivalent.
  • If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 13 or more credits) in Geography or equivalent will be considered.
  • Completion of 4 full credits in Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Geography courses completed is required (or equivalent).
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines.

  • Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the seminar/tutorial/lab sections for a particular course
  • Coordinating Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators/Marker-Graders and holding meetings with them
  • Assisting in the preparation of marking schemes
  • Coordinating the marking of course assignments and/or midterm, progress and final exams
  • Any other related duties as may be required by the course instructor
