About The Position

This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for the position of Course Coordinator for SOCI 1P91 - Introduction to Sociology II. The Course Coordinator reports to the Department Chair or Course Instructor and performs duties in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. The role involves significant administrative duties, student contact, and coordination between instructors and seminar leaders. The position requires availability during peak periods such as the beginning of the term, mid-terms, and final exams, as well as consistent availability otherwise. Requirements

  • Master's Degree or Honours Degree in Sociology or equivalent.
  • Familiarity/experience with SOCI 1P91 as seminar leader or with other sociology courses at Brock or another university.
  • Available for blocks of time based on job demands and peak periods (beginning of term, mid-terms and final exams) and consistently otherwise.
  • Advanced proficiency with Brock’s Learning Management System or the equivalent used at another university.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with academic policies and practices related to academic misconduct, phrase-matching software (Turnitin.com), accommodations, grade appeals, and referrals to student services.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and professionally with email to students as individuals and en mass.
  • Able to work within a climate of diversity, displaying sensitivity to issues of race, sexual orientation, class and gender in accordance with Brock University sexual harassment policy.

Responsibilities

  • Contact with students, example seminar switches in first weeks of classes (requires availability).
  • Maintain running records of grades by seminar leaders.
  • Input grades by seminar and course sections.
  • Liaison between instructors and seminar leaders, to coordinate grading meetings, etc.
  • Miscellaneous administrative duties - keeping files, records.
  • Attending course related meetings.
  • Involvement in submission of mid-term and final grades within university time frames (checking each student's final grade).
  • Calculation of 1P91 grade averages as required by Department.
  • Proctoring exams, and late exams.
  • Proctoring in-class quizzes.
  • Collecting contact information - various phone numbers and email addresses.
  • Posting grades and contact information for seminar leaders.
  • Assisting with management of student email.
  • Other duties as they arise.
