About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Teaching Assistant for the GEOG 1P01 - Globalization and World Systems course for the Winter D3 term. This position is part of the CUPE4207-1 employee group. Compensation will be based on the employee's qualifications, with an undergraduate rate of $23.30 per hour and a graduate rate of $36.67 per hour, effective September 1, 2026. Additional duties will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The duties include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time such as preparing seminar material, student consultation, marking, proctoring exams, attending lectures, holding office hours, and other course administration. For online courses, Teaching Assistants must provide online virtual office hours and timely support to the instructor and students during regular business hours, evenings, and weekends.

Requirements

  • Experience or familiarity with the design and/or execution of online courses
  • Familiarity with the technical aspects of Brightspace, Brock's Learning management system
  • Master’s degree, M.A. candidate or B.A. Honours Degree in Human Geography or equivalent
  • Completion of 4 full credits in Human Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Human Geography courses completed (or equivalent)
  • Completion of the course for which the applicant wishes to be a teaching assistant with a final grade of 75% or higher in that course (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines
  • Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
  • It is the responsibility of the member to accept only as many appointments (i.e. hours of work) as will allow their to successfully complete the duties assigned for each appointment.
