About The Position

Brock University is seeking a Course Coordinator for GEOG 1P10 - Our Environment: Climate, Weather, Ecosystems for the Winter D3 term. This position reports to the Department Chair or Course Instructor and involves overseeing seminar/tutorial/lab sections, coordinating Teaching Assistants, assisting with marking schemes, and coordinating the marking of assignments and exams. The role is governed by Article 22 of the Collective Agreement and is subject to course enrollments and budgetary approval.

Requirements

  • Must be enrolled in or have completed a postgraduate degree or have completed a Honours Degree in Physical Geography or equivalent.
  • If vacancies remain, students enrolled in an Honours Program (completed 13 or more credits) in Physical Geography or equivalent will be considered.
  • Completion of 4 full credits in Physical Geography with an overall average of 75% or higher in all Physical Geography courses completed (or equivalent).
  • Completion of GEOG 1F91 (or equivalent) with a final grade of 75% or higher.
  • Demonstrated successful undergraduate teaching experience or equivalent small group leadership in an undergraduate context.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet stipulated deadlines.
  • Members shall not accept any appointment which, taken together with all other appointments at the University, would cause the member to exceed the maximum number of regular hours (i.e., not overtime hours) allowable in a work week under the Employment Standards Act, as amended from time to time.
  • It is the responsibility of the member to accept only as many appointments (i.e. hours of work) as will allow their to successfully complete the duties assigned for each appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the seminar/tutorial/lab sections for a particular course
  • Coordinating Teaching Assistants/Lab Demonstrators/Marker-Graders and holding meetings with them
  • Assisting in the preparation of marking schemes
  • Coordinating the marking of course assignments and/or midterm, progress and final exams
  • Performing any other related duties as may be required by the course instructor
