About The Position

The Courier makes deliveries and pickups among designated departments, facilities, drop-sites, offices, and people, handling items for immediate, next-day, or future delivery. The role also includes phlebotomy duties, such as obtaining and identifying patient samples, preparing specimens and requisitions for transport, and following procedures for transporting protected health information. The Courier coordinates with dispatch, payroll, laboratory, and courier departments; maintains accurate logs and records; and keeps equipment in good working order. The position requires safe driving, courteous communication, confidentiality, professionalism, reliable attendance, and prompt availability while on duty.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid state driver's license, good driving record, and ability to drive safely.
Excellent interpersonal skills for communicating with medical and laboratory personnel.
Previous courier or driving experience.
Knowledge of safe motor vehicle operation and maintenance.
Knowledge of traffic laws, ordinances, and rules involved in motor vehicle operation.

Responsibilities

Maintain courteous communication with phlebotomists, nurses, customers, patients, and other contacts.
Multitask and perform additional duties such as scanning, centrifuging, and data entry.
Deliver items to designated departments, facilities, drop-sites, offices, or people.
Pick up items from designated locations for immediate, next-day, or future delivery.
Keep patient information confidential and refrain from discussing it outside the Laboratory.
Handle and preserve specimens properly, including non-blood specimens.
Work to improve operations, reduce turnaround time, streamline processes, and provide cooperative, seamless customer service.
Suggest customer-service improvements to a supervisor or appropriate staff and communicate schedule changes.
Respond to requests for information, care, or service promptly and politely; inform the immediate supervisor when a request cannot be handled promptly.
Work respectfully and cooperatively, demonstrating warmth, courtesy, and professionalism, and represent TridentCare positively.
Follow the dress code and wear proper identification at all times.
Report accidents and injuries immediately in writing and cooperate with institution-wide programs and projects as assigned.
Maintain a clean, quiet, and respectful environment for customers, patients, facilities, coworkers, and other contacts.
Follow attendance policies and maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Follow established phlebotomy procedures for obtaining blood samples and correctly identify patients before drawing according to TridentCare policy.
Ensure specimens are correctly labeled, placed in the proper tube, and accompanied by a completed requisition with patient billing information before transport.
Follow TridentCare policy for transporting protected health information (PHI).
Plan and organize draw schedules with attention to patient priorities.
Complete written logs, timesheets, and other required records neatly and accurately.
Work cooperatively with dispatch, payroll, laboratory, and courier departments.
Maintain equipment in good working order and promptly report problems to the Area Phlebotomy Supervisor.
Answer the company-issued mobile device promptly while on duty and remain ready and available to work.
Notify dispatch of availability for future assignments.
