About The Position

As a Cosmetic Reconditioning Associate II at CarMax, you will help deliver vehicles that meet the company’s standards for quality and appearance. You will perform cosmetic inspections and final quality checks, identify defects and determine suitable repair methods, and carry out advanced reconditioning work such as paint touch-up, wet sanding, and buffing. The role also supports auction preparation and vehicle movement on and off the lot. Associates are expected to provide customer service, collaborate with team members, follow Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, and maintain a clean, orderly work area. The work takes place indoors and outdoors, including in inclement weather.

The position is located at CarMax’s Hartford location at 89 Weston St, Hartford, Connecticut. The hourly rate is $23.23. CarMax describes itself as having over 250 store locations and over 30,000 associates.

Requirements

• Complete all CarMax training programs, including online and hands-on modules.
• Ability to read, interpret, and accurately record data for inventory and quality control.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual tasks for extended periods.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with customers and team members.
• Willingness to work indoors and outdoors, including in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

• Execute standardized cosmetic reconditioning processes at an established pace while maintaining efficiency and quality.
• Perform advanced cosmetic repairs, including paint touch-up, wet sanding, and buffing.
• Complete cosmetic and final quality inspections to ensure vehicles meet customer-ready standards.
• Identify defects and determine the best repair methods.
• Support auction preparation and assist with vehicle movement on and off the lot.
• Deliver exceptional customer service and collaborate with team members to achieve goals.
• Follow CarMax Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) requirements.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.

Benefits

• Paid sick time: eligible associates may accrue up to 48 hours per year, subject to applicable terms.
• Paid vacation time: eligible associates receive between 80 and 200 hours per year after a 90-day waiting period, depending on years of continuous service.
• Paid holidays: eligible hourly or commission/incentive associates receive 8 hours of pay for each of 6 scheduled holidays per year, plus 1 floating holiday.
• Holiday Premium Pay may apply when eligible associates work on a scheduled holiday due to business need.
• Full-time salaried associates receive paid time away, with no specified limit, for sick time, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, and floating holidays, subject to manager approval.
