About The Position

The Corrections Security Officer serves as an unarmed patrol officer at a government corrections location in Columbia, South Carolina. The role helps safeguard staff, visitors, and authorized personnel by maintaining a visible presence, conducting patrols, monitoring access, and supporting a secure environment. This is a driving post and requires a valid driver’s license. The officer is expected to provide customer service, communicate clearly, and respond to security concerns with integrity, reliability, teamwork, and care.

Requirements

Valid driver’s license in the state where the job is located; a valid driver’s license is required for driving positions.
At least 18 years of age for unarmed roles; at least 21 years of age for armed roles.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Applicants are subject to a background investigation in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws.
Applicants are subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
Licensing requirements are subject to state and/or local laws and regulations and may be required before employment.

Responsibilities

Provide customer service to staff, visitors, and authorized personnel by carrying out security procedures, site-specific policies, and emergency response activities.
Respond calmly and professionally to incidents, disturbances, and critical situations, notifying appropriate site personnel or emergency services as directed.
Conduct regular and random unarmed patrols of buildings, grounds, access points, and perimeter areas.
Monitor access to restricted areas and verify authorization as required.
Document visitor, incident, and patrol activity according to site procedures.
Maintain a professional and respectful presence in a controlled institutional setting and promptly report concerns to designated personnel.
