About The Position

The Department of Corrections seeks a Corrections (DOC) Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor who is ready to use trade experience to teach others in a secure correctional environment. This role at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Mahanoy gives you the opportunity to guide inmates as they build confidence, discipline, and practical skills that support positive change. Requirements

Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.
Possess an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
Meet the PA residency requirement.
Able to perform essential job functions.
Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Teach refrigeration mechanic practices, methods, and procedures
Direct inmate work crews, assign tasks, and inspect completed projects
Issue, inventory, and account for tools and materials
Determine required supplies, submit purchase requests, and plan daily schedules
Select instructional methods based on project needs, ability levels, and learning progress
Maintain training records, attendance lists, and assignment details
