About The Position
Become a key part of the Department of Corrections (DOC) as a Corrections Refrigeration Mechanic Trade Instructor at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Albion. Each day brings the chance to teach, motivate, and lead inmates in valuable refrigeration and air conditioning skills. You will guide them in structured lessons that encourage responsibility, teamwork, and mastery of the trade. Your expertise makes a lasting impact on both individual development and facility success. This position provides classroom and hands-on instruction in the refrigeration mechanic trade while maintaining discipline and clear structure. You will help inmates learn important vocational skills that support facility needs and prepare them for future success.
Requirements
- Five years of experience in the repair and servicing of refrigeration systems or air conditioning systems; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the refrigeration or air conditioning mechanic trade.
- Possession of an active Universal Refrigerant Transition and Recovery Certificate issued by an approved provider.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach refrigeration and air conditioning installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance
- Direct inmate work crews, monitor work quality, and inspect completed assignments
- Issue tools, track inventory, and conduct searches to ensure all items remain accounted
- Determine needed supplies, submit purchase requests, and manage materials for projects
- Maintain records of inmate progress, attendance, and project assignments
- Maintain order and apply instructional methods and trade curriculum that support skill development
