About The Position
Join the Department of Corrections as a Corrections Automotive Mechanic Trade Instructor and help inmates learn a valuable automotive trade. You will bring energy and purpose to daily instruction that supports vocational progress. Your leadership will promote confidence and stability in the classroom and the shop. Requirements
- Four years of experience in the diagnosis, maintenance, repair, and replacement of various components and systems used in automobiles, trucks, or construction or heavy equipment; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship in the automotive mechanic trade; or An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes one year of journey level work in the automotive mechanic trade.
- Possession of an active Motor Vehicle Air Conditioning Technician Certificate issued by an approved provider.
- Possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- Possession of an active Pennsylvania Emissions Inspection Certification and an active Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic certification for class C vehicles and any other class of vehicles used in the facility.
- Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
- Meet the PA residency requirement.
- Able to perform essential job functions.
- Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
- Teach inmates automotive inspection, repair, and overhaul techniques
- Maintain discipline, structure, and safe practices during instruction
- Direct inmate work crews and inspect completed automotive assignments
- Issue, track, and search tools and materials used in training and work tasks
- Determine needed supplies and submit purchase requests for training and repair work
